Ninth Street Bakery's mission is to provide organic, healthy products to our local community. We know that a business is more than just the bottom line. We have an impact on our environment. We are not only responsible, we are responsive.
![]() History
.In 1981 Ninth Street Bakery opened its doors at the original 9th Street location. The family run business was built from simple ideas: buy locally and produce wholesome, organic baked goods. An innovator in the organic, healthy foods market, the small cafe quickly outgrew its original location and moved down the block, to where Elmo's Diner is today. As the wholesale side of the business also grew, a bigger production site became necessary. Ninth Street Bakery relocated its bakery plant in 1992 to downtown Durham. In 1996, Ninth Street Bakery permanently relocated its retail outlet to its current downtown location, at 136 E Chapel Hill St.
